Home Security Systems

Home Security Systems

In this day and age, you don’t have to scroll through the news on your phone too much to see all the scary things that can happen. There are home burglaries, break-ins and assaults everyday, all over the country. Luckily, you can have a first line of defense by using a home security system. A home security system can give you an edge on taking care of your home and protecting your loved ones.

What is a home security system?

A home security system is a way to arm yourself and your family with excellent protection whether you are at home or away. A home security system can protect your family while you are asleep at night and it can protect your home and your belongings while you are at work or on a vacation.

How does a home security system work?

A home security system works hand-in-hand with your local law enforcement. If your system is interrupted by a break-in, it alerts your local police and they are able to get to your home as soon as possible to stop in burglaries or damages. You also can monitor your home with a home security system by accessing the system remotely.

How much does a home security system cost?

Home security systems are more affordable than you might imagine. For a full home security system, you will spend between $19.99 and $69.99  The installation is also affordable, but many companies offer free installation. When it comes to the equipment, it is also reasonably priced and is sometimes included in your installation price. Here we are listed home security pricing

What options are offered in a home security system?

A basic home security system has a control panel that you use to activate or deactivate the system whether you are home or away. Today’s control panels are sleek and look great with any home decor. Many home security systems offer the option to access the system remotely through a smartphone or tablet. Beyond the basic home security system, there are options of surveillance cameras and doorbell cameras. These can also be accessed remotely through a smartphone or tablet. With these extra camera options, you can feel confident that you loved ones are safe while you are away.

What if the home security system equipment breaks?

If your home security system breaks or malfunctions, most companies offer a free lifetime warranty. This helps to ensure that you can have your home and your loved ones protected under any circumstance.

What if I move away? Can I bring my home security system with me?

When you purchase a home security system, you have the option of purchasing one that is portable. It does cost more money and there could be a fee to change your service address, but it is possible to bring your home security system with you. This option is very popular with people who rent their house. Just because you do not own your home doesn’t not mean you cannot enjoy the benefits of a home security system.

A home security system can give you peace of mind. When you purchase a home security system, you don’t need to worry about your belongings or your loved ones.

Protect America Vs. ADT Home Security

After a careful review of many home security companies, TrustedAlarm.com chose to make a close comparison between Protect America and ADT home security systems. Protecting your home and family are the most important things in your life. So we do not take this stuff lightly. We know how much your family and property matter to you, so we want you to make the best choice for yourself. Read a little bit more information about Protect America and ADT below.

    Protect America
Protect America was founded about 24 years ago by a man named Thad Paschall in Austin, TX. With the goal in mind to protect the American people, Thad named the company Protect America. Since then, the company has protected hundreds of thousands of homes across the United States. The steady rate of growth is impressive. What sets the company apart from its competitors is the DIY installation process. Protect America believes that consumers want to be able to install their own home security system. Turns out that it’s not too difficult to do yourself. Once your home security system has been ordered and purchased, a service ticket is generated for the fulfillment team. Once your package is prepared, it is shipped quickly to your home within three business days. Often times with other home security companies you can’t even get an appointment to have a technician come to your home for installation until 2 weeks. This is sometimes the case with companies like Vivint. And of course, the Protect America system is totally wireless.
    ADT
There’s little doubt that ADT is impressive. In fact, they just acquired Protection1, a company also listed as a trusted company on TrustedAlarm.com. ADT was founded in 1874. That is over 140+ years in business. That definitely awards them a badge of trust. ADT currently has 6.5 million customers and counting, all of which are protected by 6 monitoring centers across the United States. The company was known for a having a very primitive style home security system with low technological features. However, a few years back, ADT introduced the Pulse home security system. The ADT Pulse is a very high quality, high-tech home security panel that has home automation integration.

If you want to go with a system that is maintained and monitored by an extremely large company, then ADT is your choice. However, if you want a smaller feel, with big business reliability, then got with Protect America.

2 Videos Show Why We Need Home Security Systems

2 Videos Show Why We Need Home Security Systems

We have ALL said it! “It can’t happen to me. It’s so unlikely that I’ll be a victim.” Well guess what. It does happen and it happens all the time. Below are three cases that might even scare you enough to say, “Well, I guess I’ll call Protect America and get set up.” (they are our preferred choice). But really, stop messing around and risking your life. Get protected now!

Case #1
This one happened in South Minneapolis. This was a break-in that occurred during the day while the homeowners were gone. Daytime break-ins are actually the most common type of burglary. The man took an apple laptop and even took the camera after he noticed it. First the man knocks to see if anyone is home. If the homeowners answer the door, he comes up with some random thing to say like he needs to borrow a phone or that he’s selling something. If there’s no answer, then he breaks in. This is pretty common. One way to stop this is to put a surveillance camera on your porch. And, it’s best for them to see it so that the home security system acts as a deterrent.

Case#2
This video is very sad. Viewer discretion is advised. This happened at night in Millburn New Jersey. The poor woman was watching TV with her 3 year old daughter. The daughter watched the whole thing. She was beaten repeatedly. A Vivint home security system would have been great here because of the fact that you can speak through the system from anywhere in the house through the two-way speaker. This is disturbing footage.

Takeaway…
It is so important to know how to protect your home and family. Ask yourself what your family is worth to you. Things like this destroy comfort at home and will never leave your family. There is no doubt that society needs home security systems in their homes.

Why Even Bother With Home Security Systems?

For many years I was very jaded about home security systems. I mean, why bother? Why answer your door to a salesman in a polo shirt and name badge who is just there to bug and pester you into buying a super expensive system. Really though. Why is it necessary? I knew a lot of these sales people and I have been around the home security industry for years. I saw these huge companies exploding in size and all these home security system signs in my neighbors’ yards. For the most part, this was my opinion till I got hired at Vivint.

After a rigorous interview process at Vivint, I was offered a sales position in their inside sales center. Now, I’d say that I’m impartial to Vivint, but at the time, I believe that the smart home automation features with climate control all synced up with the Go Control touch screen security panel was like selling GOLD! But, I was just selling to sell. There was still something missing.

Fortunately for me, as an employee, the company regularly sent calls around from the monitoring department (I assumed they vetted them for security and privacy purposes). One such call I listened to pulled at my heartstrings. I heard a woman desperately yell for help through her panel. It happened. What most of us believe to never happen actually happened. This woman had a man break into her home. It was then that you could hear the police siren coming from down the road. At this point I realized that home security systems actually do save lives. In the industry, home security companies like Vivint, Protect America, and ADT really do make a difference.

Yes, it is much easier to say that you will never be the statistic, but let me say that its much better to have a home security system and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

#1 Check Your Home Security Salesman’s Facts

When you either call in to talk to our #1 trusted company, make sure to ask lots of questions. It is risky to make a decision for your best home security company when you are only following your gut instinct. So, TrustedAlarm.com proposes that you find out all of the when, where, how, and how much’s of everything regarding your purchase decision. As for Protect America home security, make sure to find out how much the system is going to cost you to monitor the equipment when the security system is activated. Fortunately, Protect America offers an option at only $19.99 per month. Granted, this inexpensive option will not come with all of the bells and whistles. Cellular monitoring will cost you a little bit more. A lot of this basic company information can be found on the Protect America website.

#2 Check Third Party Websites

This one is easy. You are currently doing it. By reading this article on TrustedAlarm.com you are using a third party review website to get more information about your purchase. For example, feel free to read some information on the Better Business Bureau and you will quickly find out what you are looking at with Protect America. Fortunately, Protect America has an A Rating. Also, check out Yelp. You can find a lot of information there. One thing to keep in mind is that people are much more inclied to leave a bad review for a company than they are to leave a good review. So take the negative reviews lightly. Consider that with the few bad reviews out there about Protect America home security, they have protected hundreds of thousands of homes out there.

#3 Ask A Friend

This is the easiest option when choosing the best home security company. Go ask a friend. Chances are that your neighbors have Protect America protecting their home and family. Take a look around and you may notice some security sign in the yard or some stickers in the window. Go ask your friend about their experience when they chose a home security company to protect their home and family. Also, welcome to the digital age of social media. Go blast this out of Facebook. Surely, you will know someone who knows someone who has had a system with Protect America.

The Top 10 Mistakes Homeowners Make When Securing Their Home

The Top 10 Mistakes Homeowners Make When Securing Their Home

Securing your home is no easy task. Since properties tend to be big and intricate, it can be easy to forget certain areas exposing your home to risk. Check out the top 10 mistakes homeowners make below.

#1 Protecting Only Doorways

It is true that most burglary entries occur at the door or some common entryway. But, not all burglaries happen there. Often times, when purchasing a home security system customers tend to ask sales people what they think about spending extra to protect other areas of the home like windows. In an effort to save the sale, they will often reply with, “you don’t need to spend extra money there. Most burglaries happen through the door.” But for a small amount more, is it really worth the risk?

#2 No Carbon Monoxide Monitoring

With some many deaths every year caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, it is not worth losing that coverage. Most home security companies will offer this option free of charge. Read more about it here from the CDC.

#3 No Smoke Alarm Monitoring

Do not take the risk of not having a smoke detector. Okay, you may be saying, “I already have a smoke detector!” Here’s the different. Having a smoke detector and having a smoke detector that is integrated with your home security system are two different things. You want it integrated because many home fires happen when you are not home. Without the integration, who is going to hear it and call the fire department? Conversely, when you have an integrated and monitored smoke alarm, your home security company will make that call for you, allowing the chance to save your home and property. Don’t take that risk!

#4 Not Using App Notifications

Home security isn’t just about protecting your home when you are home. It is just as important to protect your home while you are gone. Most break-ins happen during the day while homeowners are gone at work. Get the notifications on your cell phone through your alarm.com app. This will make your life much easier.

#5 No Video Surveillance

Using the Alarm.com app will allow you to watch your cameras live as well as stored footage. Watch your nanny take care of your child as you would expect. You should also set notifications to alert you when there is motion. If you know that no one is home, and there is motion picked up from the camera, then that allows you to trigger an alarm or call 911.

#6 Ignoring Suspicious Behavior In the Neighborhood

This one should go without saying. Don’t be that person and not report something weird going on in your neighborhood. Say something. Call the local police. Or call your home security company and they can call the police for you.

#7 Not Having Home Automation

Not only done home automation make your life easier, but it also makes your life safer. With home automation features like that from Vivint Home Security, you can easily shut off appliances that were left on. Don’t take the risk of your home going up in flames because the curling iron was left on.

#8 Not Protecting Bottleneck Areas

Every home has common areas called bottlenecks. This basically means that its an area where other parts of the home connect to it. Often times it’s a family room, living room, or kitchen. Sometimes it’s an entryway. You MUST put a motion sensor in these areas. That way when someone breaks into your home through a window or some other uncovered entry point, the home security system will cover and set off your alarm. This is definitely a must.

#9 Garage Mishaps

Garages can be weird. Sometimes they are attached and sometimes they are not. Sometimes they are in the back of the property, and sometimes they are right in front. Garages tend to be a big target area for theft. Most garage doors are not very secure. Get these doors protected and even ad a motion sensor and camera to the garage. The last thing you need is to have your property stolen out of your garage. Don’t forget to cover this area. This is so important.

#10 Relying on Owning A Firearm For Home Security

Owning a firearm is obviously one way to protect yourself. But, this does not protect your home! Firearms used as security only work when you are home. What about when you are not home? It also goes without saying that defending yourself and family in your home with a firearm carries a lot of responsibilities and risks. Get a home security system. See below to know which is the best home security company to choose.

Top 3 Protect America Reviews Topics

We have found 3 good ways to look at Protect America reviews. Of course, there are a lot of different ways to look at a company when making a decision to buy. That being said, the home security system has a lot of information to take in. We have chosen three ways to look at Protect America home security. Check out the following topics when reviewing Protect America.

#1 Cost

Protect America home security systems offers the most inexpensive option out there. At just $19.99 per month, it is hard to beat that price. Granted, Protect America does have other more expensive options that come with wireless cellular monitored home security systems, but they provide a low-cost home security option so that everyone can afford to protect their home and family. After all, that’s what it is about; protecting your home and family from intruders. Also, most companies charge an upfront fee for installation or base equipment costs. The good thing with Protect America is that they don’t charge anything to get started. Once you agree to the monthly charge, they ship your system. And don’t worry about getting a cheap home security system. The Simon XTi equipment is some of the best on the market. That brings us to the next topic.

#2 DIY

It is safe to say that America as a whole is on a binge for do-it-yourself products. Whether it’s a simple project from Home Depot, or a very basic surveillance system from Nest.com, people like to tinker with their own gadgets. That being said, Protect America caters to that particular crowd. What sets Protect America home security apart is that it is a do-it-yourself system. One of the reasons that this is so convenient is that you do not have to open up your home to some stranger to install your home security system. Some people feel uncomfortable allowing a technician go through their entire house to install a system that can be installed by the customer. Although almost all Protect America customers install their home security systems themselves, there is an option to have it installed if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself. Feel free to watch a an easy-to-install video here. You will understand it easy when you see it, but basically all of the pieces come with an easy Velcro sticky adhesive. So all you have to do is peel and stick.

#3 Service

There are lots of reasons to go with Protect America, but a major reason is their service. I have personally met their staff, and although large, Protect America home security has really refined their training process as to prepare all of their employees. The Protect America support and monitoring staff are completely prepared to assist you in anything you need. They are quick to answer your call and are attentive to your concerns and anything needing resolution. When protecting your home and family, you don’t just want to rely on a company you’ve made a purchase with. Instead, you want to know that the staff actually cares that you are safe and protected.
